Friday 6 Jan 2017: Hidden figures

the movie
the movie

I trained at the gym, and then Sharon and I went to see Hidden Figures, a made for Trump supporters production about math, science, and  strong, intelligent black women…

The movie was great, although their were glaring technical failings: analytic geometry is (was) not esoteric; Euler’s method was misrepresented; and my old employer IBM would hardly have dropped a 7090 off at NASA with no support.

My LIGO tee arrived, and I wore it under my “I get  a Hadron from Particle Physics” hoodie.

Thursday January the 5th 2017: Psycho meets Gershwin after we danced

Before the final piece
Before the final piece

For the first time in a while, I slept in!

We had a great dance lesson with Julie after lunch, and later we ate dinner at Edwin’s on Shaker Square.

Back to Severance Hall, where the concert was varied:

o Suite from movie Psycho, by Hermann

o Piano Concerto Opus 42, by Schoenberg

o Rhapsody in Blue, by Gershwin

o Concerto for Orchestra, by Bartok

Soloist: Kirill Gerstein. Russian Jews provided much of the music: Hermann and Gershwin changed their names, but Gerstein did not..
