Friday! Friday 12 April 2013! Friday 12 April 2013 in Chicago! (Trendy is as Trendy Does!)

IMG_2491We woke to a NY times by the door, I went down and had coffee, and then we ate breakfast in the hotel -the  South Water Kitchen.

Shopped for a few items at Walgreen’s: one knows that they are in Chicago when it takes 15 minutes walking by the booze for sale until locating the chapstick!

We cabbed over to the Art Institute Chicago, we we expanded our horizons,

and ate lunch at the Terzo Piano on the third level – http://www.terzopianochicago.com/

For supper, Sharon had heard from our daughter (via Top Chef) that the restaurant of choice was the Girl and the Goat – http://www.girlandthegoat.com/.

Since we are trend setters, we wanted to eat there, but there were no reservations until May 8. Not to worry, we went straight in, I turned on the 2000 watt smile, and we were soon seated.  We were talking to a threesome at the bar, and when we told then we were from Cleveland, one woman said she was from Avon Lake and Bay Village. (We live in Avon Lake, and Sharon taught at Bay High for years. ) Where in Avon Lake?  On Yoder, which is  the street next to ours.  Small world.

It is a small plates kind of place,  the food was very, very  good, and a young woman next to us took a picture:

Meanwhile, back on the home front , the Tribe had a walk off win, and things were jumping at Avon Ballroom.
On Facebook, I connected with a Chicago couple we had met on a CFI cruise.

Saturday 9 March 2013:

When we left off  last night, we had dinner at the Capital Grille – http://southflorida.menupages.com/restaurants/the-capital-grille-3/

Today – Saturday – we had breakfast at our  hotel, then I had a work out in the exercise room, and sat out at the pool.

Sharon and I travelled down A1A, checking out the real estate options, and stopping for lunch at Cuchina Delle Arte in Palm Beach – www,cucinadellarte.com.  Upon further review, we had happened upon a place where billionaries rub elbows with twenty somethings, leaving us with the role of increasing the diversity.

Friday 6 July – Sunday 8 July 2012: This Was The Week End That Was

I went to gym  - back and triceps, we had lunch at jakes, and shopped for food at heniens.

For the drought, I watered  flowers.

.In the afternoon, I rode the bike for 50 min.

Our son in law Bill and our daughter Valerie arrived for the weekend from Columbus, and we had dinner from bubbas BBQ.

Saturday Sharon and Valerie cooked brunch at home, I did a few things on Mini,  and then we went over to our son Allen’s house in Rocky River, where they were entertaining her parents.

Their house in RR

We then caravaned down to Progressive Field, where we had tickets for the Indians game.

It was special – for my birthday (#70, in May), they were in a dugout suite – the view:

We were often on TV – Bill in Red and I in light:

All of us in suite:

Bill, Valerie, Allen, Sarah, Brad, Becky (her folks), Yours trully, and Sharon.

Basically, unbelievable!

You know you are the cheap seats when the team President is next to you.

walking out…

We stopped at A Place Well Known To Me for a post game drink – only one for all except me, who had 1 + 1.

Sunday, we had brunch at Pier W in Lakewood, with Bill, Valerie, and Valerie’s friend, Janette.

View from Winton Place, Pier W.

Then Sharon and I went to a fund raiser for Sherrod Brown in Shaker Heights, where I saw many friends.  We came home, crashed, and then ate left overs.

I will ride my bike, and ThatWasTheWeekEndThatWas!

(And what a weekend it was…)

Saturday 7 Apr 2012:Big Boxes and Boutiques; Bob Evans and B-Spot

First thing in the AM (after making coffee)   I studied Russian with Rosetta Stone.

We had lunch at Bob Evans Avon, and then over to Avon Commons Costco, where we bought paper products, and two camp chairs for our fire pit.

On to THD, where we bought  a cut down liquor barrel, for a back yard hose holder.

Later, it was oft to crocker park.  We left our name at B-Spot, and then went over to the iStore, where a glitch on Sharon’s phone was rectified.
@ b spot, she had a brat, I had a very rare Lola Burger (served with an egg up on it).

Back home, I rode my bike for 30+ minutes.

Monday 13 Feb 2012: Quality Time

Sharon is in Columbus.  I did a W/O at  gym, and then lunch at a Place Well Known to Me.

I stopped at Catherine’s Chocolates in Avon, where I bought a lb of covered strawberries for Sharon for VD, and then made a stop for quality time at a Starbucks.

In the evening, it was an ACLU board meeting in Oberlin.

Friday 3 Feb 2012: Gourmet comfort food, black and white artistry, and Pi for the evening repast.

In the am I was at the gym for back, triceps, and misc, and then Sharon and I went over to the new Cleveland facility in Westlake for her MD appt.

Then we went over to Crocker Park and had lunch at Iron Chef‘s Michael Symon‘s B Spot http://www.bspotburgers.com/ .  Sharon said the OR’s were the best she had ever had.

We then walked a few hundred feet over to Regal Park theaters, where we saw the movie “The Artist” : very high quality, but not for everyone – best for lip readers, old timers, or both.

We had dinner at  Mark Pi’s, where everything on the menu is a real multiple of 3.14159265…

Back home, I studied Russian with my friend Rosetta Stone, and then did 20 min on my bike.

Friday 13 January 2012: Lifting, reading, sliding, and dancing.

In the AM it was Fitness Edge for back, triceps, and misc.

The first actual snowfall of the year in my area arrived, and Sharon left for Columbus for a OFWC meeting.

UPS delivered nothing (“A Universe From Nothing” by Prof Lawrence Krauss) in the early afternoon.

(see:http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/01/15/2924952/physicist-describes-a-universe.html)

I went to a Place Well Known to Me for cocktails and conversation, and then on to the Avon Ballroom, where I attended the group class (waltz), and the open dance.

Monday 2 Jan 2012: Gym and the ladies

At the gym, it was chest and biceps, and then Sharon and I went to lunch at applebees in Avon Commons – we shopped at Heinen’s.
Sharon had a Women’s Club of Avon Lake board meeting at our house: I served them and then studied.   Later I rode the bike for  60 mins = 14+ mi, and then worked on preparation for removing the motor on our Mini.

Mon 26 Dec 2011: Boxing day

On this bright, sunny day, after I made posts and blogs on the Internet, Sharon and I had lunch at the vintage cafe in Avon, and then went over to Avon Commons to the caribou, where I drank and bought coffee.

Back home, I set up a new shelf system in the garage (with the help of my daughter Valerie), and disposed of three. old, small ones.
