Friday! Friday 12 April 2013! Friday 12 April 2013 in Chicago! (Trendy is as Trendy Does!)

IMG_2491We woke to a NY times by the door, I went down and had coffee, and then we ate breakfast in the hotel -the  South Water Kitchen.

Shopped for a few items at Walgreen’s: one knows that they are in Chicago when it takes 15 minutes walking by the booze for sale until locating the chapstick!

We cabbed over to the Art Institute Chicago, we we expanded our horizons,

and ate lunch at the Terzo Piano on the third level – http://www.terzopianochicago.com/

For supper, Sharon had heard from our daughter (via Top Chef) that the restaurant of choice was the Girl and the Goat – http://www.girlandthegoat.com/.

Since we are trend setters, we wanted to eat there, but there were no reservations until May 8. Not to worry, we went straight in, I turned on the 2000 watt smile, and we were soon seated.  We were talking to a threesome at the bar, and when we told then we were from Cleveland, one woman said she was from Avon Lake and Bay Village. (We live in Avon Lake, and Sharon taught at Bay High for years. ) Where in Avon Lake?  On Yoder, which is  the street next to ours.  Small world.

It is a small plates kind of place,  the food was very, very  good, and a young woman next to us took a picture:

Meanwhile, back on the home front , the Tribe had a walk off win, and things were jumping at Avon Ballroom.
On Facebook, I connected with a Chicago couple we had met on a CFI cruise.

Wednesday 4 April 2012: YAB (Yet Another Blog)

Started at the gym (Fitness Edge in Avon Lake), where I trained thighs, hips, glutes, trics, obliques, and calves.

Then – after preparing myself for Close Encounters with Other Humans – I went to the weekly Dem lunch.

There, a request was made for a new blog to counter Republican efforts.  I volunteered to do it, and by 2100 hrs it was up with a registered domain name.

I studied Russian Language, and rode my bike for more than 7 miles (indoors).

Friday 30 Dec 2011: New years eve squared (eve of eve)

At the gym in the AM it was back and Triceps for me.

We lunched at Red Robin in Avon Commons, and then it was food shopping at that fine Union store Heinen’s.
In the evening, I went to the swearing in of Greg Zilka as Mayor of Avon Lake,

Zilka family, Congress person Kaptor

and then stopped at a Place Well to Me for libation.

Friday 23 December: Memories are made of this…

I started the day at Fitness Edge in Avon Lake, where I trained back, triceps, wrists, forearms, abs, and calves.

Then I had brunch with high school friends Fred Marcel and Bob Titmus at the Rustic in Rocky River – old guys telling stories and exchanging family updates:”The grand experiences of youth become the fond memories of maturity, and each is appreciated in its own time.”  (cf pervo)

I went home, and after a while, it was lunch with Sharon at Bearden’s, also in Rocky River.

There are two old line family dining places in Rocky River: the Rustic, 1947; and Bearden’s, 1948.  I had eaten at both on the same day: this was not planned, as I chose the latter as we were driving by.  We shopped at Heinen’s in Bay Village on the way home.  As we were driving on Lake Road in Lakewood, Rocky River, and Bay Village the past few days, Sharon observed that seeing those grand old homes decorated for the season are a glance into xmas’s past…

Back home, we worked on preparations for entertaining, and then I rode my bike for 33 minutes…

Tue Dec 13 2011: gifting; healing; dancing; and reminiscing

In the AM, I had a sty on the inside of my upper right eye lid, so I made a noon appt with an eye doctor.
WCAL (Woman’s Club of Avon Lake) had prepared gift baskets for those who receive meals on wheels, and we took them to the center.

Those who manage MOW were thrilled, and said that these would be the only gifts that some receive…
After my appointment, in which she prescribed an oral antibiotic, we picked up my prescription, and then had lunch at Applebees, shopped at THD and then Heinens.
At 5pm, we had a dance lesson with Anya at Avon Ballroom, and then Sharon went to the WCAL annual banquet, while I went to an informal
reunion of Fairview High School Classes of 1958-1962.  It was at the Buckeye Lanes in North Olmsted, and the turnout was about 40-50 people.  I arrived 10 minutes early, had a few anxious moments when no one else was yet there, and then had a nice time sharing memories with friends when they arrived.  The high point of the evening for me was when the bartender told me that when I came in, she didn’t think I looked old enough to be in the group she was   expecting, and I had no problem with that.

Wen 02 Nov: legs, leaves, and loops

The day started at Fitness Edge, where I trained legs, shldrs, abs, and calves.  Then it was off to the weekly Dem lunch, our last before E-Day.

Sharon and I took a top down fall color cruise in her 2009 Mini Cooper S, through Avon Lake, Rocky River, and Lakewood, staying close to the Lake.  We stopped at the Erie Island Coffee Co, where I looked at “Quantum Gravity” by Rovelli, a new book on quantum loop gravity which came today from Amazon.

After dinner, I played with Python, rode my bike 60 minutes while I watched the new BG series on Nova (fab graphics)

Monday 31 Oct 2011: Exercise for the body and the mind.

Began the day at Fitness Edge, Avon Lake: Chest, biceps, neck, wrists, obliques, calves.

We handed out $10 bills to the kids trick or treating ( actually snickers…)

Have to love demonic, secular celebrations

Grilled, and made a fire in the new fire pit.

Rode my exercycle for 60 min, and watched the comedy channel news at the end of the day.
